Iceland’s former Minister of Education, Science and Culture
Katrín has been a member of the Icelandic Parliament since 2007 and Minister of Education, Science and Culture since 2009-2013. As a minister she promoted the role of arts during economic crisis and instigated a policy on how to strengthen arts and the creative industries as a pillar of the economy. She is currently the leader of the Left-Green Movement and a member of the Icelandic Parliament.
Katrín has a MA-degree in Icelandic literature. Her main research field has been Icelandic popular culture and Icelandic crime fiction. Before entering parliament she worked as a teacher, editor for a publishing house and a literary critic. She is still active in the Icelandic literature debate.
